Dream Pillow—Lesson Six (Movement & the Brain)

To the right for four, now swish… Everyone in class this week would agree that the “Maypole Dance” with humongous scarves, swishing, and weaving in and out was quite an experience!  The babies were mesmerized with the colors and motions.

Whether swishing during the “Maypole Dance” or swaying in your living room, dancing is helping your baby’s brain grow. Research shows that movement is the key to learning. Our brains fully develop through movement activities such as crawling, rolling, turning, bouncing walking, reaching, swinging, and much more. The brain has a plan for development that involves specific and intensive motor activities to make full use of our complicated nervous system.

Get baby up and move at home this week!  During the day when your little dancer is alert, play a favorite song and try some new moves. Dance with baby in your arms and then place baby on the floor and gently move arms and legs to the beat.

Until our next dance,
