SWIS/Week 11
Dear Imagine That! Parent:
The children listened this week to an all-time favorite song, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” Although we’ve been singing this song for a few weeks, today’s rendition was a little different. The song was heard sung in a “round.”
Many of us have grown up singing “rounds”—without, perhaps, understanding the nature of a round. A round can be defined as a typically short melody either sung or played which is, at a certain point, joined by a second group of musicians beginning the melody. When the second group reaches the same point, a third group may begin and so on, until all groups have entered.
At home this week, listen to “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” on Home CD 2, track 23. First, you will hear a group of children singing the song straight through. That is followed by the song sung in a 3-part round—in other words, the song is sung by three groups of children, overlapping as described above. After listening, gather family members and enjoy your own rendition of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat!”
