See What I Saw/Week 6
Dear Imagine That! Parent:
Learning opportunities abound in Kindermusik. There are many obvious musical learning opportunities, but did you realize that your child is also building social skills? The ability to take turns is an important social skill, the mastery of which takes time and experience. Each time a child is part of a turn-taking activity, this social skill can be strengthened. It requires self-control and the ability to postpone one’s wishes.
Today the children successfully waited their turn to hold and pass the rock and then to choose and play an instrument in the fun musical game “Obwisana.” They also took turns talking about what they heard in the Music Listening activity. And again they waited their turn to accept a scarf for the “Windy Weather” activity. Each example might seem small and insignificant; yet it is these types of opportunities that build your child’s ability to function effectively in a group setting.
