KINDERMUSIK FOR THE
YOUNG CHILD, SEMESTER 4
Week 12 (Lesson 57)
Dear Young Child 4 Parent:
At home this week, enjoy some music of Central and South America. The song “My Farm” is a folk song from Argentina; “Chirimbolo” is from Ecuador; and, of course, the fun “Mexican Hat Dance” is from Mexico!
Consider ways to relate these songs to their cultures. You might use a globe to show your child where the countries are located in relation to your own country. Or check out children’s books at the library on these cultures. Talk about the children in each country—their language, the types of schools they attend, the foods they might eat, even what their names might be. Any related information that would appeal to your child will help her understand the nature of the world in which we live—and singing songs of other cultures can help make us feel closer to those far away.
